Question by David H: How many of you believe in abiotic oil?
I’m just really interested in seeing how many off you believe in this fairy tale of limitless oil?

For those not in the know: abiotic oil is theory from our friends in the GOP, that oil is continualy being replenished, and that therefore the oil will never run out.
Basically we could burn fossil fuels until the entire oxygen in the atmosphere is depleted!

first I’d heard of it, thanks, I’ll have a look, and come back with a definite answer.

I add that you saying it is a fairy tale goes no way to convincing me one way or another, unless you’ve got a link to any research you have published on the subject.

What do you think? Answer below!

I think that anyone who suggests we’re not facing an energy crisis doesn’t know what the word abiotic means.

I’m neither a geologist nor a biologist, but it’s rather obvious that whatever the rate and cause of oil replenishment is, it’s several orders of magnitude less than the rate that we’re using it.

Oil isn’t anything more than hydrocarbons. There’s some interesting theories out their about being able to harvest it efficiently from algae, sugar cane, and other renewable sources – but it’s rather obviously not ready for prime time yet.

I wouldn’t cross my fingers and hope that the earths core will miraculously produce more oil for us despite all evidence to the contrary.
